White Labels in Telehealth – A Win-Win-Win Situation

White-label? Is this a whiskey-related matter?

Not quite, although it could be! Let’s start from the very beginning. The origin of white-labels is obscure. Although it is well known that this practice appeared in the age of mass-production and giant retailers (the first half of the 20th century), there are very few resources on who first used it and where. This is no surprise, bearing in mind that the purpose of white-labels is precisely to obscure the original manufacturer (the term itself sprung from promotional vinyl records that were sent to DJs in white sleeves so no one could see what music they were playing). At that time scale was everything and white-label products offered win-win opportunities: manufacturers could produce them in larger quantities and retailers could benefit from their lower marginal cost.

Today, white-labels have spread far beyond the consumer realm, into high-tech and high-end industries. Google, for example, offers Google Ads as a white-label product for digital agencies to use and in turn outsources some of its customer support to white-label call centers.

In short, white-labeling today has a far more positive reputation than a hundred years ago. The stupendous increase in software complexity over the years raises the cost of starting from scratch and makes it increasingly worthwhile for companies to look for ready-made solutions.

I also love history. But can you give me one solid reason to use white-label software!

Well, here are three (among others):

  • Reinventing the wheel (or like we say in Bulgaria, rediscovering hot water): A finished, working product can render all the mistakes that have been made during its production invisible to the untrained eye. That doesn’t mean they didn’t exist. Hundreds, sometimes even thousands of people might have pondered how to solve the problem that you are facing. This is a mountain to climb! Opting for a reliable solution that has been tested countless times can save you an incredible amount of headache.
  • Curtailing time to deployment: like to one day! Even the most trivial of solutions, let alone complicated ones, can take ages if you insist on building them yourself. By the time you have finished, you might discover that your requirements have changed and you need to refurbish it quite a bit, or even that it is useless. No need to start (or start over) at the bottom of the curve, when you can jump straight onto the flat part.
  • Staying within your core competency: you don’t have to be a chess player to know the meaning of “overstretching”. Embarking on a complicated journey like creating software from scratch means deflecting valuable resources away from your core activity. And it was your core activity that got you so far, wasn’t it?

OK, the wheel, I got it. Tell me more about this white-label stuff.

Nowadays, the world is teeming with software. This statement might sound a bit funny in twenty years (if you are reading this in twenty years, just drop it and do something else), but still the general feeling is that we live in an era of digital cornucopia. For every service you can think of, there are multiple apps and websites. It is mind-boggling! So it is important to stay lean – choose those solutions that most closely fit your workflow. If you use different software for every process, things can quickly go out of hand, plus the chances that you run into compatibility issues at some point in time increase with every additional product you use. Ideally you should choose a single, ready-made product that EXACTLY fits your workflow. However, plug and play solutions in a complex environment are highly improbable. Things always need some tweaking so customizations options and ongoing support are paramount. More on that later.

Do virtual care and white-label platforms go along with each other?

More than that, they were apparently born for each other.

First of all, medicine is a difficult and complex enough field (no disrespect to candy manufacturing), so why branch into another extremely knowledge-intensive industry like building software? Life doesn’t need to be this complicated! The harder your core activity is, the more sense it makes that you remain focused on it. The higher the value added, the greater the loss incurred when dragged away from it.

Second, medicine is all about trust. People who work in the health industry are well aware just how important this asset is. Every time when booking an appointment for a consultation, patients entrust medical professionals with their health, sometimes even their life, let alone their personal data. Trust builds brand loyalty. White-label platforms are perfect for well-established trademarks because the technical solution is subsumed in the brand identity. White-label products serve dual purpose. First, they enhance the brand because they silently add new services and features. It is like buying a cool fast car that is ALSO fuel efficient. Second, white-label solutions don’t dilute the brand identity – everything happens under the hood.

How is Healee positioned in the white-label telehealth market?

Healee checks all the boxes and some more that you probably don’t know about. It positions itself as a modern, safe, flexible, easy to implement and, most importantly, all-around platform that conducts information in all directions – patient to doctor, doctor to patient and even doctor to doctor and doctor to facility. The more channels are open, the less likely it is that you will need additional software. At its heart medicine is an information industry and telehealth even more so. Efficient and secure information flow is vital. Healee encrypts every single byte to protect your brand and make it fully GDPR and HIPAA compliant. Choosing Healee White Label goes way beyond changing the logo and adding “/yournewplatformofchoice” to your website. Healee ships with a huge array of customization options. Even its A.I. powered chatbot, designed to automate away the tedious and repetitive parts of a medical consultation, can be “personalized” to exactly fit your routine. Healee is a “deep white label” platform, if you get my drift. More on that will be coming in the next blogpost.

Last, but not least, all the original Healee features are offered to everyone – patients, physicians, clinics – regardless of the size of your business.

See – there is a win-win-win solution!
